Financial Aid FAQs

Your FAFSA® or BYU-Idaho demographic information may not match

If the date of birth or Social Security number (SSN) on your FAFSA® does not exactly match your BYU-Idaho student record, your financial aid cannot be processed. This is usually caused by a typo on either the FAFSA® or your BYU-Idaho profile.

Check both your FAFSA® and BYU-Idaho profile. If one is incorrect, submit a correction so the information matches exactly.

To correct your birthdate on my BYU-Idaho profile:

  • Log in to myBYUI
  • Go to your Profile tab
  • Select Edit Personal Information
  • Select Change next to your birthdate
  • Upload one of the following documents:
    • Birth certificate
    • Driver’s license
    • Passport

To correct your Social Security Number (SSN) on my BYU-Idaho profile:

  • Log in to myBYUI
  • Go to your Profile tab
  • Select Edit Personal Information
  • Select Change next to your Social Security number
  • Upload your Social Security card

How do I correct my Social Security Number on my FAFSA®?

  • Log in to FAFSA and update your information in Account Settings
  • Once verified by the Social Security Administration,(this may take serveral days), Go back to studentaid.gov and select “Make a Correction” to your FAFSA.
  • Review, sign, and submit the form
