Financial Aid FAQs

You may have completed the wrong FAFSA®

The FAFSA® is based on the academic year, not the semester you start. The academic year begins in the Fall and continues through the Winter and Spring semesters.

Many BYU-Idaho students who start in Winter accidentally complete the next year’s FAFSA® because the new FAFSA® opens in October and is highlighted on the FAFSA® website. If you completed the upcoming FAFSA® instead of the current academic year's FAFSA®, your aid will be delayed.

Winter 2026 2025-2026
Spring 2026 2025-2026

What to do if you submitted the wrong FAFSA®:
Log in to FAFSA® and submit the FAFSA® for the correct academic year.
