About the Returned Missionary Scholarship

Effective Winter 2025, the Returned Missionary Scholarship will be increased from $500 to $1000. This is a one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who:

  • Are enrolling in their first BYU-Idaho semester since their mission
  • Are enrolled in at least 6 credits

Do you qualify for this scholarship?

  • You must be a BYU-Idaho campus student without an earned bachelor's degree
  • The length of your mission doesn't affect your eligibility
  • All missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (proselyting, humanitarian, performing, and service) may receive this scholarship
  • Students will be awarded based on the credits they are enrolled in by Full Semester FADD (23rd day of the full semester)
  • Students who register after the Full Semester FADD for second block classes will not be awarded scholarships

The following chart illustrates mission return dates that qualify for the corresponding first semester at BYU-Idaho.

  • Once awarded the scholarship will automatically show in your financial aid portal

Have you registered for 6 credits and still don't see an RM Scholarship in your portal?

  • Your mission service information must be in your student record to receive the Returned Missionary Scholarship.
  • If you have not received the scholarship, you can email admissions@byui.edu and let them know your mission name, start date, and end date, and they will add your mission information to your student record

How much money could you receive?

  • This is a one-time $1,000 scholarship

How do you keep your scholarship?

Credits don't need to be Program Applicable (apply to your major).
Only courses taken for credit are included in your credit count for this scholarship.

  • Audited courses do not qualify

Can you combine this with other scholarships?

Yes! The Returned Missionary Scholarship can be combined with all other BYU-Idaho scholarships, even if the total exceeds full LDS tuition.

When will I receive my scholarship?

  • The scholarship is disbursed to your student account the first week of the semester
  • It's applied first to tuition charges
  • Be sure to sign up for eRefund so any remaining funds can go directly to your bank account
