Academic Scholarships

BYU-Idaho offers Academic Scholarships to recognize the exceptional academic achievement of current BYU-Idaho students. Academic Scholarships are awarded yearly based on BYU-Idaho Cumulative GPA. Starting with 2025-2026 awarding no application will be required.

About the Academic Scholarship

The BYU-Idaho Academic Scholarship is awarded yearly, based on your college GPA. It helps with tuition costs for the award year’s Fall, Winter and Spring semesters.

  • If you attend all three semesters, you will receive an award each semester.

How Can I Be Considered?

  • You must be a BYU-Idaho campus student with at least 12 BYU-Idaho credit hours
    • Have earned less than 120 credits after Winter semester and not earned a bachelor's degree
  • Starting with scholarship evaluations for 2025-2026 academic year, we'll check grades after the Winter Semester and automatically award scholarships to those that qualify.
    • In previous years, scholarship applications were required to be submitted by March 1st, so grades were evaluated after Fall semester.

The following chart shows eligibility for the 2024-2025 scholarship based on GPA after Fall 2023 semester.

GPA Requirements

3.95–4.0 Full Tuition
3.9–3.949 Half Tuition
3.75–3.899 Quarter Tuition

**2025-2026 Academic Scholarship evaluations will be after Winter 2025 semester.

How Much Money Could You Receive?

Academic Scholarships are offered for all three semesters: Fall, Winter and Spring. Awards cannot be moved. If you are not enrolled during a semester, you will not receive the scholarship for that semester.

Award amounts are based on LDS member tuition rates and your enrolled credit level:

** 2025-2026 Scholarship Award amounts will be announced once 2025-2026 Tuition amounts have been decided. **

  • Your award amount depends on how many credits you're taking on the Financial Aid Determination Date (FADD).
    • If you change your credit load before FADD, your award will change too.
  • Credits don't need to be Program Applicable (apply to your major).
  • Only courses taken for credit are included in your credit count for this scholarship.
    • Audited courses do not qualify.

Are You a Missionary or Planning to Serve? Here's What You Need to Know!

Future Missionaries: If you're awarded an academic scholarship and receive a mission call, contact the Admissions Office to defer the scholarship until you return.

Recently Returned Missionaries:

Did you receive an Academic Scholarship and defer for a mission?

Update our team that you have returned from your mission by emailing scholarships@byui.edu.

Can I get more than one BYU-Idaho Scholarship?

Yes, but there is a limit. The total amount you receive from BYU-Idaho Scholarships cannot exceed full LDS tuition.

Exception: the Returned Missionary Scholarship can exceed full tuition.

*You cannot receive the 4-Year Merit scholarship and the BYU-Idaho Academic Scholarship at the same time. You will qualify for one or the other. See more info on the Merit scholarship and if it can be increased here.

How Can I Check My Scholarship Status?

    • Awards will show in your financial aid portal and award letters sent to your BYU-Idaho email as awards are processed.

If you have questions about whether you qualify, your award amounts, or any other concerns, please email scholarships@byui.edu.

When Will I Receive My Scholarship?

    • The scholarship is added to your student account the first 3-5 days of the semester.
    • It's applied first to tuition charges.
    • Be sure to sign up for eRefund so any remaining financial aid funds can go directly to your bank account.

What do I really need to know about the BYU-Idaho Academic Scholarship?

    • Academic scholarships are awarded for the full academic year and do not increase or decrease from semester to semester.
    • For 2025-2026 we will review all scholarship eligibility after Winter semester and scholarships are then awarded for the upcoming complete academic year – Fall 2025, Winter 2026 and Spring 2026 semesters.
    • You can only receive a BYU-Idaho scholarship if you are enrolled in at least 6 credits. If you are not enrolled, you cannot move it to another semester.
    • Your Academic Scholarship amount can increase next year if your BYU-Idaho grades qualify you for a higher award.
      • This increase is only for one year. You will be evaluated again after the next Winter semester.
    • If you lose your Merit Scholarship, you can receive an Academic Scholarship during evaluations for the following academic year.
