How do I apply for FAFSA?

• Create an account at FAFSA.gov and complete the application. Be sure to list BYU-Idaho’s school code: 001625

Do I need my tax documents to complete my FAFSA?

• It is best to have your tax documents handy when filling out the FAFSA. Based on your answers, the new form may ask for information from your tax return

Who is eligible to fill out the FAFSA?

• United States Citizens and Eligible Non-Citizens

I pay for school all by myself, my parents do not help me. I filed taxes as an independent. Do I have to include my parents' income on the FAFSA?

• Yes, you have to include your parents’ income information until you are:
  
  • 24
  • Married
  • Have a dependent of your own
  • Active military
• Why should I apply? My parents make too much money,  I don’t think I will qualify for anything.
  
  • You might be eligible for aid you're unaware of

You need to complete the FAFSA to be considered for BYUI Need-Based scholarship, some State based scholarship and private scholarships

How often do I need to complete the FAFSA?

• You will need a new FAFSA for each school year to ensure continued aid consideration

When can I start filling out the FAFSA for next year?

• Usually the FAFSA opens on October 1^st, but for 2025-2026 the Department of Education has announced it should open in December

What if my financial situation changes after I submit my FAFSA?

• Contact the BYU-Idaho Financial Aid Office for guidance
