How Academic Standing Works
Students must earn a cumulative GPA (cGPA) of 2.0 or higher to be eligible to earn a BYU-Idaho degree.
Students in Good Academic Standing have a cGPA of 2.0 or higher.
Students who fall below a 2.0 cGPA are placed on Academic Notice, Academic Intervention, or Academic Pause with specific interventions tailored to help them improve their academic performance.
Academic standing is determined at the end of each semester once grades are finalized by a student's cGPA and their attempted BYU-Idaho credits (see graph below).
Note: An attempted credit is a credit you attempt, but do not necessarily earn, and results in a W, A, B, C, D, F, or UW grade. If a class is dropped (deleted from the transcript) in the first 21 days of the semester, it is not counted as an attempted credit. Students can find their attempted credits and cumulative GPA on their unofficial transcript.
Read the full Academic Standing Policy for additional information. Students who have questions can contact the Success Coaching Department at peermentoring@byui.edu.

One of the hallmarks of the BYU-Idaho experience is the concern faculty and staff have for students and their academic success. Because of this focus, BYU-Idaho's Academic Standards Policy is designed to identify students who cannot graduate due to a cGPA less than a 2.0 and to help students improve their GPA to be able to earn a BYU-Idaho degree or find success elsewhere.
