Suicidal Student Emergency Protocol

Students in Immediate Crisis or Physical Harm

If students are in immediate crisis or physical harm, call 911 and then the Dean of Students at (208) 496-9200.

Students at Risk of Harming Themselves

If students are at risk of harming themselves or have a similar crisis during office hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday), please contact the BYU-Idaho Counseling Center at (208) 496-9370 or come directly to their office and tell the receptionist that it is an emergency.

Emergency During Evening or Weekend Hours

If an emergency occurs during evening or weekend hours, or anytime, call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

Students Struggling but not in Immediate Danger

If students are struggling but not in immediate danger, promptly refer them to a professional, such as the BYU-Idaho Counseling Center.
