Tuition Waivers

Continue to grow by increasing your educational opportunities. BYU-Idaho offers tuition waivers for full- and part-time employees, retirees, spouses, and dependents.
To begin receiving your tuition waiver, to make a change, or to verify how much of the waiver is remaining submit a request through the Tuition Waiver Request Form. It will guide you through the process of setting up or changing your waiver. The tuition waiver will continue to apply automatically to BYU-Idaho students every semester when classes are taken (unless otherwise indicated) until the credit limit is reached or the employee, spouse, or dependents become ineligible.

Employee

BYU-Idaho offers tuition waiver benefits for employees to assist in their professional development and lifelong learning. This benefit is subject to certain types of employment. For a list of employment types and the amount of tuition waiver they receive, please refer to the following list.

  • Full-time Employees: Full-time employees are eligible to receive a tuition waiver for up to 6 credits per semester.
  • Part-time Employees: Certain part-time employees are also eligible for a tuition waiver, covering up to 4 credits per semester. Please note that this benefit does not extend to unbenefited temporary employees, including call-in temporary employees and limited temporary employees.
  • Online Instructors: Online instructors are not eligible for the tuition waiver benefit.
  • On-Campus Adjunct Faculty: On-campus adjunct faculty members are eligible for a tuition waiver equal to the number of load hours they are currently teaching, with a maximum cap of 4 credits.

In most cases, eligible employees do not need to request the tuition waiver as it is applied automatically. However, if you find that the waiver has not been automatically applied to your account, please don't hesitate to reach out to tuitionbenefits@byui.edu or complete the request form provided above.

Retirees and Their Spouses

Retired employees with at least 10 years of service, their spouses, and dependent children are eligible for tuition waivers. Part-time retired employees also qualify for these benefits.

Dependents

** After the 6th day of classes, a dependent's tuition waiver status cannot be changed. The benefit only covers the tuition cost. All other fees do not apply, such as books and internship fees. The tuition waiver for any classes dropped after this date will not be refunded.

Dependent children of employees/retirees are eligible for a tuition waiver of up to 76 credits. This tuition waiver can be used at any CES institution for undergraduate courses.

  • Dependents/parents will be required to select how the tuition waiver is to be applied at the beginning of each academic year which starts in the Fall Semester, and their tuition waiver will remain at that selection for the remainder of the academic year.
  • Changes to an individual’s tuition waiver benefit will not be allowed after the Fall semester add/drop date deadline, nor will changes be allowed until the next Fall semester’s registration period.
  • Accommodations will be made for those returning from a mission or for those dependents that start at BYU-Idaho in the Winter or Spring semesters.

Dependents can choose to have the waiver applied in three ways:

  • Full: Covers all credits taken until waiver limit is exhausted.
  • Half: However, many credits are taken during each semester, the waiver would cover half of the credits.
  • Deferred: Dependents can choose to defer their tuition waiver, not accessing the benefit until indicated at a later date.

If attending BYU-Idaho a request will need to be made to start the tuition waiver. Once it is started the waiver will continue until the 76 credits are used.

If attending any other CES institution, please submit a request at the beginning of the academic year (Fall) and the tuition waiver will be applied for Fall and Winter semesters. If you attend in the Spring or Summer semester please submit another request.

The tuition waiver can only be applied to dependents who are undergraduate degree-seeking students. Courses in the Pathway program will not be covered by tuition waiver. While BYU-Idaho dependents must be under the age of 30 to receive the waiver, marital status does not affect eligibility.

Eligibility

Employees are eligible for a tuition waiver immediately after hire, this policy applies to their spouses and dependents. Spouses and dependents of retired employees are also eligible for the same tuition waiver as if the employee were active.
