Medical Benefits

DMBA offers four medical plans to BYU-Idaho employees: Deseret Premier, Deseret Value, Deseret Select, and Deseret Protect. Each plan provides different levels of coverage and provider networks.

DMBA provides a network of physicians and facilities throughout Utah and southeast Idaho. Some preventive services are covered at 100% when done with an in-network provider. In-Network deductible only applies to Deseret Protect. Depending on the procedure, some services must be pre-authorized by your In-Network Primary Care Physician (PCP).

Core Insurance Benefits

Core insurance benefits included in your monthly premium:

  • Medical insurance, which includes the wellness program (living healthy).
  • Group Term Life Insurance ($50,000 to employee, $2,000 to spouse and $2,000 to each child)
  • Occupational Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance which is only offered to the employee, not spouse or dependents. (Up to $100,000)
  • Disability insurance which is only offered to the employee, not spouse or dependents. For information about Disability Insurance see the link below.
DMBA offers a brand new healthcare transparency tool through the Healthcare CostCutter. You can search for procedures or medications, and the tool will generate the estimated cost of those services at nearby facilities, potentially saving you hundreds in healthcare expenses! DMBA offers long-term disability insurance to eligible employees and is included in your monthly medical premiums. Visit the Disability Insurance page for more information on how the program works, eligibility, and how to apply.

The Supplemental Life Insurance plan is in addition to the basic life insurance amounts included in the monthly medical premiums.

You can change or apply for supplemental life insurance (SGTL) at any time. It is not constrained to the open enrollment period. Upon enrollment, a questionnaire will be provided for each individual who will be included in supplemental coverage. From that point, DMBA might contact you to schedule a nurse's visit to get more information and samples. Coverage does not take effect until DMBA approves the application.

24-Hour Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (24-hr AD&D) provides protection for accidents that result in the loss (or loss of use) of the following: life, limb, vision, hearing, and/or voice. To collect this benefit, the loss must be the direct result of an accidental injury, being independent of all causes other than the accident.

There are several coverage options, including employee only, employee and spouse only, employee and children only, or entire family coverage.
