Food Microbiology Lab
The Food Microbiology Lab allows students to gain experience testing food samples for bacteria and pathogens. This lab is utilized for both instructional and commercial purposes. Students work to ensure food safety and maintain the quality of various food products.

Featured Facilities

Microbiology Lab
Students study a gram-stained specimen slide on a microscope using the 100x objective for magnification. Microscopes are often utilized in the Food Microbiology Lab to study and test several samples.
Microbiology Lab
An important part of science is recording results, whether that be from a microscope slide or something else. Here, a student records results while being surrounded by scientific instruments like a standard gram stain kit and rack.
MicroBiology Lab
Students change objectives on a binocular compound microscope to increase magnification. The increase in magnification allows students to better identify bacteria and pathogens in samples.
MicroBiology Lab
In order to make a gram stain microscope slide, a student collects a sample from a bacterial colony with a sterile inoculating loop from a petri dish.
Microbiology Lab
Students often prepare to make gram stains within the lab, as shown in this photo. Gram stains are made from samples of a bacterial colony that have been isolated from a petri dish, they allow people to identify characteristics of the microbe.
