What financial assistance is available to me if I choose to register for classes during Spring 2020 semester while I’m waiting for reassignment?

Missionaries who have temporarily returned home and enrolled in classes while waiting for reassignment may qualify for financial assistance. Options for assistance may include federal grants/loans, university need-based aid, or other emergency assistance. If you have already applied for or received financial aid for Spring Semester 2020 and have registered for classes then you won’t need to take additional action. The Financial Aid Office is available to help you find the best option for your situation. Contact the Financial Aid Office through text or call at (208) 496-1411 for help in this process.

If I am reassigned for missionary service before I finish Spring Semester 2020 classes, will I get a refund of my tuition?

BYU-Idaho wants to ensure you can return to missionary service without worrying about financial difficulties from attending classes while you were waiting. Missionaries who enroll in classes for Spring Semester 2020 who need to drop the classes partway through the semester in order to return to full-time service will receive a refund of tuition and fees. Factors influencing the amount of refund include whether you have received federal grants or loans and whether enough of the semester was completed in order to get credit. In most cases, missionaries without federal aid will be given a full refund if courses are not able to be completed with credit. Please contact Accounting Services for assistance with your personal situation at stuaccts@byui.edu or by phone at 208-496-1411. If you drop before the end of the semester, you may be asked to share information about your reassignment instructions.

Don’t lose your spot! If you return to missionary service before the end of Spring 2020, please email the Admissions Office with your new mission assignment and service dates to request an updated missionary deferment that preserves your admission to BYU-Idaho while you serve.

I’m home and awaiting reassignment on my mission. What are the academic implications if I have to leave mid-semester?

BYU-Idaho wants to ensure you can return to missionary service without worrying about negative academic consequences. Please consider enrolling in first block courses. The first block of the semester will conclude by June 5. Alternately, if you enroll in full semester course(s) and are reassigned to the mission field before the end of the semester, you can drop all courses through July 7 (with no notation on your transcript). You may be asked to provide information about your reassignment.

Don’t lose your spot! If you return to missionary service before the end of Spring 2020, please email the Admissions Office with your new mission assignment and service dates to request an updated missionary deferment that preserves your admission to BYU-Idaho while you serve.
