Canadian Student Applicants

As a Canadian student there are a number of regulations and school policies that you need to be aware of as you plan for your education at BYU-Idaho. Some of these are specific to BYU-Idaho and others are mandated by US immigration requirements and apply to all schools admitting international students in the United States.

Please use the information found on this site to educate yourself regarding these regulations and policies.

Academic Evaluation

Applicants can now self-report a GPA on a 4.0 scale. The Scholaro GPA calculator can be used for a free option to convert Canadian high school/secondary education work to a 4.0 scale as required on BYU-Idaho’s application.

Align with U.S. GPA Standards
Applicants must select the same grading scale indicated on their transcript to calculate their estimated U.S. GPA.
Use All Credits for Evaluation
Applicants should include all work used in determining high school graduation or its equivalency when using Scholaro.
Confirm Your Academic Information
Admitted students will be requested to provide copies of their high school transcripts (in English) for verification purposes.
Accuracy Matters for Admission
Omission of grades or failure to use the correct grading scale when completing the Scholaro report may lead to the reversal of an admission offer.
BYU-Idaho’s Right to Request More Information
BYU-Idaho reserves the right to require a full credential evaluation as deemed necessary.

Application Deadlines

Canadian residents have the same application deadlines as U.S. residents. Application decisions are usually made within 2-3 weeks of submitting the application. Apply early to give yourself plenty of time to select classes and housing.

Finances
Canadian residents will not be required to pay the $4000 international student deposit.
I-20 Application Process
Canadian residents who are eligible for admission to BYU-Idaho will be admitted without having to go through the I-20 immigration application first.

When admitted, Canadian applicants will be provided a link for submitting their I-20 application into our system.

Note:  The adjustments described above are only for Canadian residents applying to BYU-Idaho. BYU in Provo, UT, will continue as they do now with the credential evaluation requirement and their regular deadlines. International applicants from other countries must still adhere to standard application requirements for international applicants.
