Make an Appointment with a tutor

Option 1: Get an Online Tutor

Make an appointment to discuss your paper with a tutor using Zoom.

Get an Online Tutor

To schedule an appointment in I-Plan:

  • After you have clicked the link above, log into I-Plan (Pathway students should use the "LDS Access" button to login), and select “Get a Tutor.”
  • Select your course.
  • Then, make sure to select “Online Writing Center.”
  • Once there, schedule an available time that works with your schedule.
  • When you schedule your appointment, make sure you attach your paper as a MS Word document.

Tutors create a supportive and resource-rich environment where writers of all disciplines can enhance their writing skills, consider a reader's response to their writing, discuss revision strategies and writing principles, and increase their confidence and writing ability.

If you are unable to schedule an appointment in I-Plan for any reason (e.g. the Online Writing Center does not show up as an option in your I-Plan), please email owc@byui.edu and let us know.

Option 2: Email Tutoring

Use the button below to send us your paper and briefly explain what you would like us to evaluate.

Upload Your Document

Please allow up to three business days for a response. If a paper is submitted on Friday, it will most likely not be reviewed until the following Monday, at the soonest.

Note for Students:

Remember that a tutor is meant to help you improve your writing skills, not just to fix your paper. Tutors will suggest improvements you can make and explain the writing or grammar principles behind those changes; however, they will expect you to make the changes on your own. Always follow the advice of your instructor. Be sure to double check with your instructor if something a tutor says seems contradictory to instruction you received in class.

Please be punctual. If you are late to your appointment, you may not be able to receive help that same day.

Note for Instructors:

Due to the large numbers of online/pathway students, we ask that instructors do not require or provide special incentives to students for using the service.

Accommodation:

If you have an accommodation letter from disabilities services that would impact the tutoring offered, please inform the Online Writing Center (owc@byui.edu) before submitting a paper or signing up for a live session.
