Fitness Class Descriptions

Learn about all the different fitness classes available at BYU-Idaho. From dance fitness classes or mindfulness yoga classes to cardio training Boot Camp, we have a class to keep you active and healthy.
HIIT is interval training alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less-intense recovery periods. Workouts provide improved athletic capacity and condition with the strength sections improving muscular strength and endurance.
Devoted to abdominal, oblique, and deep core muscles. Not only is this class a great tool to help develop your abs, but it also improves strength, endurance, posture, body awareness, and developing abdominal strength it may help prevent lower back pain.
A fast-growing exercise program. It consists of an instructor, you, and your bike. You do not need to be an avid cyclist to spin. This is a very individualized workout that is fulfilling to all fitness levels. You get a fun energizing bike ride, without even leaving the building. (Bring a towel and a water bottle.)
Designed to give you an overall TOTAL body workout. Offers a great variety of choreographed combinations with dynamic and powerful movements used in kickboxing. This martial arts-based fitness class is designed for all levels of participants.
Designed for toning muscles and increasing cardiovascular endurance. A perfect workout for the beginner, pregnant woman, and even the advanced fitness person. Work at your own level to reach your goals and specific needs. We will use aquatic equipment to help maximize cardio and resistance from the water.
This is a weighted workout set to the rhythm of the music. It targets every major muscle group using barbells, free weights, and bands. Focusing on core stability, correct techniques using light to moderate weights, and high repetition. You will see muscle definition and become firm, toned, and strong!
A dance fitness program taught by certified instructors. It involves dance and aerobic elements. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, and mambo. It brings the dance party into fitness. Come enjoy the PARTY.
A dance fitness class self-choreographed by students that are not certified. Implements hip-hop and Latin style movements.
We can help you reach your fitness goals. This class will work at a high intensity, with timed workouts and interval training bouts. Challenge yourself! (Class will consist of a Workout of the day and Workouts that consist of as many rounds as possible).
A fun class combining high-intensity cardio training with weight training and bodyweight exercises. Classes will include mixtures of Tabata and strength to optimize all-around fitness! All classes are beginner-friendly and tailored to individual fitness levels.
Is a pulse-pounding, beat-pumping, body-blasting fitness program that gets your results fast. It's a high-intensity dance party that fuses cardio, strength, pilates, hip hop, yoga, and kickboxing. This high-intensity dance workout mixes modern moves with strength training.
This class is taught by the ESS 204 class. Enjoy a variety of styles such as Yoga, HIIT, Circuit, Cross Training, Pump-It, and more.
Improves flexibility, builds strength, and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance.
An intense choreographed aerobics class using the Step with particular emphasis on hips, thighs, abdominals, and buttocks. You step up, around, and down from the platform in different patterns to boost your heart rate adding strength training intervals to give you a complete cardio/strength workout.
