At BYU-Idaho, we want every student to have a fair chance to learn and succeed. If you have a disability and use services from Accessibility Services (AS), it’s important to know your rights and what is expected of you. Everything you need to know is below!
Your Rights as a Student
As a student with a disability, you have the right to:
- Get fair and equal access to classes, programs, and campus activities.
- Ask for reasonable help (accommodations) based on your disability.
- Be treated with respect and keep personal information private (FERPA).
- Talk with Accessibility Services about your needs and options.
- Get support to figure out what will help you best.
- Work with your teachers to plan how your accommodations will be used.
- File a report if you feel you have been treated unfairly.
Your Responsibilities as a Student
You are responsible for:
- Telling Accessibility Services about your disability and asking for help.
- Giving recent medical papers or school plans (like an IEP or 504 Plan) that explain your disability.
- Talking clearly about how your disability affects you in school.
- Asking for your accommodations each semester and following all deadlines.
- Using your BYU-Idaho email to check for updates from our office.
- Talking with your teachers each semester about how to use your accommodations.
- Letting Accessibility Services know if your needs change.
