The Scroll's History
Since the beginning, communication has brought people together. Here in Rexburg, ID, it is no different.
Shortly after the birth of Ricks College, now named BYU-Idaho, the Scroll, the university’s student-run newspaper, began. Since its foundation in 1905, it has brought the communities of BYU-Idaho and Rexburg together in a spirit of unity.
For over a century now, the Scroll has "kept its eye on a single goal: inform, inspire and entertain the campus and Rexburg community." From navigating the coverage of editorial news like the visit of Eleanor Roosevelt in 1959 to breaking news like the devastating collapse of the Teton Dam in 1976, the Scroll has provided the public with information and entertainment for decades.
The Scroll not only provides information and entertainment to the community, but it also equips the students who work there with the skills necessary to enter the professional world. As a student-led program that gives all members a chance to gain real-life work experience in all forms of media, Scroll gives students the chance to develop a professional resume and enhance their future work ethic by creating and designing quality products.
