In the Department of Accounting, Kevin Kimball, the department chair, prepares students for the professional world by giving them opportunities through internships, networking and giving them a better understanding of the professional world that BYU-Idaho is preparing them for.
In the fall of 2023, there was a 100% employment rate for students who graduated from the accounting department.
When asked what they are doing as a department to achieve high rates of employment, Kimball spoke about successful internships and an event called “Meet the Firms” that is held each year.
“We emphasize internships from the very beginning of the program; we have our success in the major class that talks about that,” Kimball said. “But we have one really big event every year. It's called ‘Meet the Firms.’ It's held the fourth Thursday of every year, and we bring in accounting firms, corporations, whatever, to campus.”
According to Kimball, the event this year was very successful with around 300 students, over 60 firms and several representatives from graduate programs in attendance.
“I think they're hardworking,” Kimball said. “I think they have a positive attitude. And I think they kind of shine and their technological abilities allow them to do work faster and more efficiently.”
