In April the BYU-Idaho Finance Department will get a new department chair. Professor Jared Eberhard generally teaches supply chain management but soon he will transition to the role of department chair.

Eberhard said that although he is a little nervous about tackling this new role, he’s excited about its potential impact.

“I realized that there is a lot of potential impact that a department chair can have that is good and positive,” said Eberhard. “I’m excited about it and apprehensive at the same time.”

One of Eberhard’s goals is to prepare students to get internships earlier in college rather than waiting until they’re seniors.

“A lot of times, by the time students start thinking about even an internship, it’s already in their senior year,” Eberhard said. “There’s really so much benefit to doing these things early on.”

In addition to Eberhard sharing how he’d like to prepare students to be more career-ready as they graduate, he talked of his desire to align with the school’s mission and help students become disciples of Jesus Christ.

“If we want students to get better jobs, we need to teach them how to be better disciples of Jesus Christ, the jobs are going to follow,” Eberhard said.

Eberhard shared how he believes faith-driven decision-making, integrity and personal revelation are the keys to success in life.

“Here at BYUI, we can teach students 100% of what they need, not just business techniques, but also seeking personal revelation and asking God for help with solving problems,” Eberhard said.
