Governance and Ethics Compliance

BYU-Idaho is committed to promoting and maintaining ethical conduct and best practices in its management.

Our Commitment to Governance and Ethics

BYU-Idaho's commitment to ethics and governance extends beyond the university's honor code and encompasses other legal requirements and best practices, such as corporate governance, conflict of interest management, the university's compliance hotline, and whistleblower protections.

Institutional Governance

BYU-Idaho is operated as an independent entity within the Church Education System (CES). Other accredited institutions of higher education within CES include Brigham Young University located in Provo, Utah, BYU-Hawaii, in Laie, Hawaii, and Ensign College in Salt Lake City, Utah. Each entity is incorporated and operated independently and separately within CES with oversight by the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees exercises broad-based oversight of all University activities. BYU-Idaho’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, which were last amended in 2002, delineate the authority and responsibilities between and among the Board of Trustees and BYU-Idaho. The Board regularly reviews the University's mission, key institutional policies, academic and administrative structure, all major programs of study, and operating and capital outlay budgets. It provides an adequate and stable funding source over the years for the University's operation and growth.

The Board selects the University President and delegates to the President full responsibility to operate the university. In fulfilling this charge, the President counsels with the Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of Church Education whose roles are defined as a standing advisory commission to the Board.
