Acquire language skills, cultural knowledge, and understanding of the world through the Department of Languages and International Studies. Fulfill the directive to "study and learn, and become acquainted with all good books, and with languages, tongues, and people."

The department helps students build speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills—as well as cultural awareness—in five languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish). In the Spanish Education major, students are prepared to teach in public schools. In the International Studies major, students choose one of the following emphases: Business, Policy, Global Information Systems (GIS), or Economics. This enables students to customize their impact on the world.
