Focus Group

Institutional Research and Assessment (IRA) offers campus offices a streamlined service for organizing and conducting focus groups

Step One: Coordinate with Institutional Research

Contact Ben Fryar (fryarb@byui.edu) to determine what level of involvement IRA should have in the focus group based on the Research and Surveys Policy.

Please be prepared to discuss the following types of questions:

  • What decisions is the focus group designed to inform?
  • With whom might the findings be shared?
  • What other departments/offices might be interested in the findings?

Step Two: Plan and Conduct the Focus Group

If the focus group will be considered business unit research, contact Quinn Gutierrez (gutierrezq@byui.edu) with the details below at least two weeks before the focus group.

  • Topic
  • Facilitator
  • Potential dates
  • Type of students (E.g., freshmen, students who receive tutoring, transfer students, etc.)?
  • Would you like the focus group recorded?

The table below shows who will be responsible for which tasks.
