What is Dance Alliance?
Dance Alliance is a unique dance company that distinguishes itself through its various genres including ballet, jazz, contemporary, swing, tap, ballroom, American folk, and world dance.
Since its founding in 1978, the team has performed in nearly all 50 states as well as Austria, Ukraine, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Ecuador, New Zealand, Central America, Japan, Brazil, and Peru.
The company is made of 36 BYU-Idaho students that have strong backgrounds in various areas of dance. Members of Dance Alliance have the opportunity to work with several different choreographers from various professional backgrounds.
Who Can Join Dance Alliance?
Participants of Dance Alliance have the the following requirements:
- Be full-time students on the Winter/Spring track or fast grad.
- Maintain a GPA 2.5 or higher.
- Be enrolled in a dance technique class that is 200 level or higher (DANCE231R - DANCE 496R).
- Have an ecclesiastical endorsement.
Members of the Dance Alliance will need to purchase individual dance shoes and travel suit. The dates and cost of tour will be announced but need to be committed to. The tour includes travel, lodging, and meals.
Rehearsals and Performance
Dance Alliance members are required to commit to all rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals are held throughout the winter second block and the entire spring semester:
Monday: 4:15 - 7:00 pm
Wednesday: 4:15 - 7:00 pm
Friday: 4:15 - 7:00 pm
Saturdays: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
The 2025 Alliance audition informational meeting is on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 11:30 am in HRT 208A, and auditions will be held on Wednesday, February 19 at 4:15 pm in HRT 208.
Dance Alliance performance dates include:
- Dance Alliance Showcase: Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
- Extravadance: July 8-12, 2025, with tech week June 30-July 7, 2025.
- Tour: July 28 - August 3, 2025.
