What is Dance Winter Showcase?

BYU-I students perform at the Dance Showcase

The Dance Winter Showcase is an opportunity to perform, learn and grow students' choreographic skills in a deep and meaningful way.

It still highlights the uniqueness of BYU-I’s dance area by representing various genres, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, swing, tap, ballroom, American folk, hip-hop, and world dance.

The Showcase fosters an environment where dancers work closely with one of BYU-I’s amazing dance faculty to develop a piece within the first block of the winter semester.

The pacing of the Showcase allows for a greater focus on the choreographic process while still producing an amazing show for our audiences and an educational experience for the performers.

Who can join the Dance Winter Showcase?

BYU-I students perform at the Dance Showcase

Any student, regardless of major or track, can audition for the winter Dance Showcase. Although auditions are available to everyone who maintains a 2.0 GPA, this opportunity is only available during the Winter semester. For more performance opportunities, please see Collegiate Dancers and Dance Alliance, which are available in Fall, the 2nd block of Winter semester, and Spring.

For those who audition and are accepted, the Winter Dance Showcase will act as a class in which they must register for at least 1 credit. The credit level won’t change the amount of work expected, it will be the same. A $30 costume fee is required for this course. It is recommended that in addition to the Winter Showcase, students also take a 200-level or above technique class.

The Dance Winter Showcase will only run the 1st Block of Winter semester, culminating in a February performance. Auditions for Dance Alliance will be held the following week.
