Dance Pre-View Day FAQs

All participants are expected to abide by the policies in place at BYU-Idaho. Dancers, please wear comfortable dance clothes and correct shoes that will allow for efficient and safe movement in your chosen genre. Ballet classes will accept form-fitting dance clothes. Temperatures vary from room to room, so be prepared with layers that can be removed during class. Absolutely NO bare midriffs. Be aware, while on campus, you will need to cover up your dance clothes. Leggings, jeans, sweats, around knee-length shorts, T-shirts, cap sleeves, jackets, and sweatshirts are all acceptable. The Dress and Grooming Policy is a helpful tool to look at for guidance, as well as Dance Attire Standards, specifically fit for dancers.
Dancers should bring appropriate clothing and shoes that coincide with their selected classes, and a water bottle. Dancers will also have the opportunity to have lunch on campus. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase Chick-fil-a from the cafeteria. This lunch is encouraged for all participants as it encourages connections to be made. Current dance students and those in leadership roles will be participating in the festival and will help direct and answer questions.
Dancers should arrive at the Hart building between 8-8:15. Parking is always tricky so give yourself time. It is recommended that you arrive a little early to ensure you find a parking space and properly warm up.
  • 8:30: Dancers will warm up and become familiar with what to expect.
  • 9-Noon: Dancers will participate in 3 classes. Each class transition will have a buffer time of 10 minutes to allow dancers a bathroom break, water break, change break, and to find the next room without being late.
  • 12-12:30: Cool down stretch and reflection.
  • 12:30: lunch. This will take place in the MC 372 (Manwaring Center).

Our faculty will be watching throughout the day for those who show skill, dedication, and passion. These scholarships will be awarded at the end of the festival during our “cool down.”
As this Event is taking place during a school day, parking regulations are enforced. As you move around campus, you will find several parking lots. To park in these spaces, a parking permit is required. You want to ensure you register for a parking passto avoid your vehicle getting booted or towed. When you have found a parking place or have been dropped off, it will be helpful to have a Mapguiding you. This will show you where each building is located, how many levels the building has, where the entrances are at each level, and classroom locations. When you are getting closer to theHart building, you will find signs and people to help direct you the rest of the way!
Yes! This is a ticketed event, which means each individual who wishes to attend will need to pay $8 per ticket. This show fills quickly and sells out often, but good news. Extravadance runs July 8th- 12th. If your dancers, families, and friends would like to attend any of these nights, they absolutely can. This is a great opportunity for aspiring dancers to see peers and newfound friends perform on stage. Purchase tickets online at BYU-Idaho Ticket Office.
For those guests wanting to be on campus while their dancers take class, you are welcome to explore campus, check out the University Bookstore, enjoy the Ricks Gardens, or wander the streets of Rexburg. At the conclusion of the festival, you are welcome to join us in MC 372 for lunch (also referred to as the Crossroads). Please note that all visitors and guests should also be aware of the University'sDress and Grooming Expectations.
All dancers over the age of 16 are invited to attend, along with current BYUI dance students.
Absolutely, we encourage you to. Take some time to explore the campus and what BYU-Idaho has to offer you. We also have Campus Tours available for community members to have a knowledgeable guide lead them around campus and answer questions. This is helpful for students who are planning on or thinking about attending BYU-Idaho, as it will increase campus comfort.
Of course you can. Try something new and have fun. We hope to give you a sample of classes and teachers you will experience here at BYUI.
As always, contact Wendy Bone, one of our Theatre and Dance Department Faculty. She will help find answers to any and all questions! Her email is bonew@byui.edu.

Hart Building

This building has many entrances. I have highlighted them in yellow.

The upper picture is the 1st level of the building and the lower is the 2nd level.

You will notice it is easier to access the Dance area from the 2nd level towards the center of campus.

I have drawn arrows to the “X” where the dance hall is located, and where the Event will kick off.

You will also notice that red highlighted boxes are visible in the lower photo, these are the dance rooms/studios.
