Declaration of Participation

Instructors need to indicate whether or not any student who earned an F or a UW grade participated in the course.  This requirement assists with BYU-Idaho's compliance with federal financial aid regulations.

Campus (Face-to-Face) Sections

Participation Declaration: For each student to whom you assign an "F" or "UW" grade, you will be required to declare if the student participated in this class. "Participation" is defined as attending one or more class meetings or completing any work associated with the class. For example, if the student attended the first day of class, the student is deemed to have participated even if the student did not attend or submit any work for the remainder of the term. If the student did not ever attend a class meeting but submitted an assignment, took a quiz or exam, etc., the student is also deemed to have participated. This declaration is necessary for compliance with federal financial aid regulations.

Online or Academic Start Sections

Participation Declaration: For each student to whom you assign an "F" or "UW" grade, you will be required to declare if the student participated in this online class. "Participation" is defined as any activity in the online course other than simply logging into I-Learn. For example, if the student submitted an assignment, took a quiz or exam, posted any comment on a blog or discussion board, participated in a group discussion, etc., the student is deemed to have participated. If the student did not log in or logged in but in no other way contributed or engaged in the class, the student did not participate. This declaration is necessary for compliance with federal financial aid regulations.

On the grade entry portal, when an "F" or a "UW" grade is entered, the Yes/No option will display. Instructors simply need to select the appropriate option before submitting grades.
