Tuition and Tuition Refunds

When is the last day to drop an individual class and receive a 100% refund for that class?

The last day to drop an individual class and receive a 100% refund is 7 days after the start of the semester, this date is also known as the add/drop deadline or the registration deadline.

What if I drop a class after the add/drop deadline (7th day of class) but before the drop deadline (“W” deadline)? Will I still get a refund for that class?

No, the last day to drop an individual class and receive a refund is 7 days after the start of the semester. If you drop an individual class after the add/drop deadline but before the drop deadline, you will not receive any tuition refund for that class. Also, you will not receive a “W” on your transcript.

Will I ever receive a pro-rated refund for dropping classes?

You will only be eligible for a pro-rated refund if you drop ALL your classes after the add/drop deadline but prior to the 60% completion mark of the semester and do not enroll in any additional classes for the rest of the semester, including second block classes. The pro-rated amount that you may be eligible for is a calculation that decreases daily. Once the semester hits the 60% completion mark you will not be eligible for any refund, even if you dropped all your courses.

When is tuition due?

Tuition is due on the first day of class every semester. If tuition is not paid by the 7th day after the semester starts, the student will be charged a 5% late fee on the outstanding balance.

If my financial aid isn't awarded by the tuition due date, will I be penalized?

Ultimately, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure tuition is paid in full by the first day of classes. Students are expected to make a payment out of pocket if their financial aid and/or scholarships are not awarded by the 7th day after the semester starts to avoid a one-time 5% late fee, 1% monthly service fees, or a past due hold on their account.  This hold will prevent the student from accessing transcripts, diplomas, and from registering for future terms until the debt is paid in full.

Will my financial aid automatically pay for everything on my student account?

Your financial aid will automatically pay for tuition and on-campus housing. Your financial aid will NOT automatically pay for anything else on your student account isuch as books, health plan, library charges, parking permits, etc. If you want BYU-Idaho to use your financial aid to pay for your other charges, you must fill out a federal financial aid authorization giving BYU-Idaho that permission.
