Meet Your Rep - Benjamin Hyde
What are your Hobbies and Interests? When I had hobbies, besides being a dad, I was a pretty awesome rock climber. We still love the outdoors and go camping, hiking, and canoeing/kayaking (we have a big canoe) often as a family, I’m also learning to fly-fish. I also love motorcycles, both working on them and riding them.
What you love about BYU Idaho? Three things were hugely impactful for me as a student: 1. My professors. They took an interest in me and my growth; they knew me, were available to me and were awesome and effective educators. Even after I graduated from BYUI they mentored me in my career. I still see them today and they know who I am. 2. Building Experiences. As a normal, everyday, average student, I had tons of opportunities to get learning and work experiences. My degree was in elementary education and they had me in elementary schools way before student teaching, first in my third semester and then almost every semester after. 3. I had a blast in an inclusive environment. I was able to try tons of things I had never done before because BYUI is set up to build folks where they are. If you’re already amazing at something, we’ll give you opportunities to grow in it, and teach others. If you’re just getting started, we’ll give you opportunities to learn (even if you’ve never done it before).
How long have you worked for BYU Idaho? 5 years
