The following deadlines are for the Pre-Licensure BSN application.

Fall Admission: February 15

Winter Admission: May 28

Spring Admission: October 15

Requirements to Apply

The newly remodeled Nursing Lab located on the first floor in the Clarke Building.

  1. Apply to BYU-I at Apply to Church Schools.
  2. Contact Academic Advising.
  3. Students must complete BIO 264, BIO 264L, BIO 265, and BIO 265L with a " B- " or higher and maintain a minimum of "C-" in all major courses.
  4. Students may repeat/retake a total of two (2) nursing prerequisite courses (this includes all core and prerequisite courses).
  5. For courses needed prior to or at the time of application, see the "Suggested Course Sequence" section below. A final grade must be posted for BIO 264, BIO 264L, BIO 265, BIO 265L, CHEM 101, CHEM 101L, and PSYCH 111 prior to acceptance.
  6. General work experience (paid and unpaid), medical experience (CNA, EMT, Medical Assisting), Church and community leadership, Church mission, military service, and ROTC students with an approved grad plan are all considered at the time applications are reviewed.
  7. May only apply twice.
  8. A 3.4 minimum core grade point average (GPA) is required at the time of selections (Core GPA courses include: BIO 264, BIO 264L, BIO 265, BIO 265L, CHEM 101, CHEM 101L and PSYCH 111) and a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA.
  9. Pre-admission exam with a minimum 75% pass rate.
  10. Acceptance is conditional on completion of NURS 105 prior to beginning the program.
  11. English Requirements:
    • As outlined by Admissions: "International and US students not educated in an English language curriculum are required to demonstrate English proficiency by meeting the minimum scores on one of the [English proficiency] exams...In certain cases these exams may be required of students educated in an English language curriculum as well."
    • The Nursing Program requires that International and US students educated in a foreign high school, demonstrate English language proficiency by meeting the minimum score of an 80 on the TOEFL. 
    • The Nursing Program also requires a minimum of a 75 on the English Language Composite score on the Pre-HESI for all applicants. 

**A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support, BLS provider card (no other CPR card will be accepted) is required immediately following acceptance into the program.

CHEM 101 and MATH 221 require a prerequisite of FDMAT 108 or an ALEKS score of 55 or greater. You can learn more about the ALEKS assessment here.

Semester 1-4 courses must be complete before beginning the core nursing sequence in semesters 5-8. Semesters 5-8 are consecutive and track overrides will be applied with no deferments accepted.

Core courses (* in the table) must be complete or in process at the time of application: CHEM 101, CHEM 101L, PSYCH 111, BIO 264, BIO 264L, BIO 265, and BIO 265L.

Pre-requisite courses include the core courses listed above and the following: NURS 105, MATH 221B, PSYCH 201, NUTR 150, BIO 381, BIO 221, and BIO 222. Grades in all pre-requisite courses are required prior to beginning the Nursing Program.

BIO 264, BIO 264L, BIO 265, and BIO 265L must be completed with a " B- " or higher. A “C-“ or higher must be maintained in all other pre-requisite and major courses.

Students may repeat/retake a total of two (2) nursing prerequisite courses (which include core courses).

Although HCA 280 (Medical Terminology) is not a required course for the Nursing Program, it is encouraged.

Pre-Licensure BSN Availability

This program is available on the BYU-I campus during Winter, Spring, and Fall semesters. It takes 4 consecutive semesters to complete after acceptance into the program.
