Welcome to the Therapeutic Recreation program. We are excited to support you as you prepare for a career focused on improving quality of life through meaningful recreation experiences. On this page, you will find important information about the program, including details about the cohort application. Application Process
- Review your graduation plan and requirements with Academic Advising.
- Declare Therapeutic Recreation as your major.
- Follow us on social media:
- You must complete RM 212 and RM 270 with a C- or better prior to or during the semester you apply.
- Fill out the Cohort Application
Note: After acceptance, students will need to contact Admissions for track overrides. Expect to complete three consecutive semesters of courses.
Application Deadline and Notification of Acceptance
- Winter Semester - first Friday in October
- Spring Semester - no Spring cohort
- Fall Semester - first Friday in May
Apply to the Therapeutic Recreation Cohort using your BYU-Idaho email. Select Start Your Application to begin.

TR Cohort FAQs
You can schedule it, so they put their religion credits in an earlier semester. You can also take an institute class that semester. If you choose to add an additional semester on, you have that option; the TR courses are what need to be enrolled in.
Exceptions to this are considered on an individual basis. Internships can be completed at a different semester after completion of the majority of coursework.
Advising will change your track so you can attend school following the schedule.
