Marriage and Family Studies (BS)

Because the marriage and family studies major is fairly new our list of career opportunities is small.  The following list is not all inclusive of what you are able to do after earning your degree.  Diligent searching is always required for a job that meets your career goals and educational focus.

Possible Careers with a Bachelors Degree

  • Shelter homes
  • Drug and alcohol centers (as an assistant)
  • Residential treatment homes for adolescents
  • Victim/witness support services (CASA, often on a volunteer basis)
  • Adult developmental disability services
  • Foster care programs
  • After-school program directors
  • Recreational specialists in treatment facilities
  • Nursing home activities coordinator
  • Child care protective services
  • Family resource center 
  • Psychosocial rehabilitation specialist (PSR)

Possible Careers Requiring a Masters Degree

  • Social work
  • Counseling
  • Educational psychology (working in public schools)
  • Marriage and family therapy
  • Community counseling
  • School counseling
  • Rehabilitative counseling
  • Family studies (more emphasis on teaching and education)
