Christmas Tree Lane
Christmas tree lane is as longstanding tradition that has existed for decades. The first citation of Christmas Tree Lane is listed in the book The Spirit of Ricks. It states that President Marion G. Romney visited campus and walked through Christmas Tree Lane on December 12,1972.
Guidelines
2025 Christmas Tree Lane Theme- Symbols of Christmas
From stars, shepherds, and angels to snow globes, candy canes, and poinsettias', each represent a symbol of Christmas, with countless others left unlisted. Participating organizations should choose a symbol of Christmas as the core decoration theme for your tree.
- Choose a symbol of Christmas and bring it to life through your tree decorations.
- Take into a consideration the award categories listed at the bottom of this document when decorating.
Registration
To participate Register Online.
- On the form be sure to specify: 1) tree height preference (9’ or 7’); 2) Christmas movie or show you are using to decorate your tree with; and 3) the number of employees and students in your office (this is to help us to know the quantity of treats to provide).
- Organizations will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
- Duplications of the same movie or show are not allowed. Contact Allen Jones for help with exceptions.
Spending Cap
Organizations are capped at $100 spending-wise for tree decorations.
- There are no rules prohibiting donated decorations and supplies.
Decorating Rules & Days
Organizations can start decorating their tree beginning Monday, November 17.
- Combustible items such as straw, corn husks, and similar materials are not allowed in tree displays.
- Flocking of trees must be approved in advance, and you are responsible for cleaning up any flocking materials.
- Department tables, booths, marketing materials, and promotional items are not allowed.
- Trees must be set up by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20 to be considered for judging and to be ready for the “A Campus Christmas” event.
Decorated trees should remain up through Christmas and should be taken down between December 26 and January 2.
Judging & Prizes
Trees will be judged on Thursday, November 20.
- Each organization that participates will receive cookies and chocolate milk.
- Winners of the awards below will receive $100 to spend on a party.
- All prize awards must be claimed prior to fall graduation.
Christmas Tree Lane Awards
People’s Choice Award - Voted on by attendees at A Campus Christmas event and through social media.
Reason For the Season Award - Best depiction of the true meaning of Christmas.
Spirit of Christmas Award - Best overall depiction of theme.
Spirit of Ricks Award - Best depiction of BYUI and school spirit.
Winter Wonderland Award - Most creative entry (design, effects, etc.)
