Mattie Johnson

Radio Producer and Reporter

I was born in Rexburg, Idaho, but have lived in South Dakota for the majority of my life with my parents and three younger siblings.

I love pretty much everything under the "art" umbrella! I enjoy drawing, painting, dancing, singing, acting, and analyzing stage and film productions. And at BYU-Idaho I'm working on a certificate in Theater Performance.

If I'm not doing something creative, I love hitting the gym for a weightlifting session or finding fun activities for me and friends.

I've never thought of myself as a writer, but joining the Communication department and studying New/Journalism at BYU-Idaho just felt right.

Since being at school I have learned to write in AP, screenplay, and different narrative styles.

I have worked with BYU-Idaho's newspaper, The Scroll, for two semesters as a reporter and desk editor. And now, as the current BYU-Idaho Radio Intern, I'm learning to host, edit, and distribute engaging and conversational interviews. It's a little harder than I thought it would be, but I can tell I'm slowly getting better! I'm excited to learn and progress in this new form of media distribution!
