My first night at college, I felt so alone. I was supposed to have dinner with my dad, who had brought me up to school and helped me unpack, but he had had to leave earlier than planned to beat an incoming storm. Without him keeping me grounded, doubts started to creep in.

“I did not realize that seven months can make such a difference when I’ve lived so many years,” said Helen Holland, a BYU-Idaho alumna who graduated with her associate’s degree in Spring 2024. “The lessons I’ve learned, the help I’ve received, and the memories I’ve made will be eternal.”

“I had no idea before I came here ... ” That is how many students begin their explanations about what they love about Brigham Young University-Idaho. My experience is similar. Before arriving on campus in August 2023 as the new president of BYU-Idaho, I already understood that the university was a place where students could grow in their discipleship of Christ. But what I did not know, and what I have learned since then, is that BYU-Idaho also provides a high-quality education, at an affordable cost, in a fun and uplifting environment.
