Graduates from BYU-Idaho’s Nursing program are achieving outstanding first-attempt pass rates on the NCLEX.
The NCLEX is the final exam that aspiring nurses are required to pass to earn licensure and practice nursing in the United States, and BYU-Idaho Nursing students are passing far above the national average:
Winter 2023 – BYU-Idaho’s average: 100% (national average: 83.26%)
Spring 2023 – BYU-Idaho’s average: 100% (national average: 95.34%)
Fall 2023 – BYU-Idaho’s average: 100% (national average: 90.34%)
Winter 2024 – BYU-Idaho’s average: 98% (national average: 94.15%)
“That is 219 graduates who passed the NCLEX on their first attempt! Shout out to our incredible, trusting, dedicated students!” said Dixie Jamison, Clinical Liaison for the Department of Nursing and Associate Dean of Course Improvement for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “We could not do this without the support of our clinical partners.”
Every nursing student is required to complete clinical hours to gain hands-on experience with patients, and BYU-Idaho partners with more than nine hospitals to give students clinical experience, including Madison Memorial Hospital, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Speaking of their experience completing clinical hours at Madison Memorial Hospital, one student said, “My preceptor was nothing less than the perfect preceptor for me. She was direct, she did not sugarcoat, she was intelligent, and she cared about the patients and about me. I learned so much from her and I will miss working with her. I have had one of the best experiences of my life working with her in the ED at Madison.”
Students also gain practice in state-of-the-art simulation suites and nursing labs on campus. BYU-Idaho’s Department of Nursing is committed to providing students with all the tools they need to be successful in the medical world.
