BYU–Idaho alumna Marissa Albrecht’s In Passing brings together assemblages, installations, and photographs that emerge from moments of transit. The works incorporate objects and images gathered while moving through everyday environments. Over time, collecting has become less about searching for particular materials and more about learning to be attentive—recognizing that meaningful things may already exist within our paths and that what we find is shaped by what we choose to see.
Each body of work contains fragments marked by prior use, bearing traces of function, movement, and time. Gathered from different places and circumstances, these materials form new relationships through assembly while retaining their individual histories. Like people, their differences become generative rather than divisive. The exhibition invites us to look more closely at our surroundings and consider how meaning emerges when unlike things—and people—are brought together.
