REXBURG— In 2023, podcasting was estimated to be about a $24 billion industry. It’s projected to grow 500% by 2030 to be a $130 billion industry. The world of podcasting is changing and growing faster than ever before. PodUp is a new podcasting platform based in Rexburg for creating, growing and monetizing podcasts.

Nathan Gwilliam is the founder and CEO of PodUp. Gwilliam is a serial entrepreneur and took on a challenge from digital marketer Russell Brunson to publish content every day for a year to be financially free.

“I started a show, and it had audio and video, short video, long video, blog, social newsletter, live streaming website, all of those different pieces,” Gwilliam said. “It kicked my butt, though. It was really hard.”

Gwilliam found that podcasting several technologies, from audio interfaces to video technologies, which cost thousands of dollars a month.

“And, one day, in frustration, I was sitting down with one of my coworkers, and I just said, okay, somebody's got to create the all-in-one platform for creating, growing and monetizing a podcast, a venture with a podcast,” Gwilliam said. “And that was my aha moment.”

PodUp was created just three years later and has raised more than $4.4 million.

PodUp has 35 different modules to help people start and grow their very own podcasts. Modules range from a video and audio editor to an ecommerce module, an ad and sponsorship module, a course module and even a newsletter module to help generate traffic from your show and fulfill one of PodUp’s core philosophies.

“You go into my studio, and right above the door as I come out, it says, ’My why. Freedom for me and the people I love,’” Gwilliam said. “I think that's what drew me to podcasting, is I wanted to get away from the day-to-day grind of trading hours for dollars, and I wanted to create an asset that I could kind of have the lifestyle that I wanted. And I think that's what we're doing for people.”

PodUp has courses for all levels. Gwilliam says it is important that people are given opportunities to learn and become an expert in the podcasting industry.

“I think that's the goal of podcasting as a venture,” Gwilliam said. “To allow people that have expertise to be able to share that expertise and create a business around that expertise and be able to have a lifestyle that they want that allows them to have that freedom themselves for their family and the other people that matter to them.”
