May 1, 1984, is a day in history many may not remember. There were no major world events or major announcements from large companies. However, in the small town of Rexburg, Idaho, on the campus of Ricks College, a major event did happen. The campus radio station went full power, 75,000 watts, on 100.5 FM. Now, 40 years later, BYU-Idaho Radio is celebrating the milestone.

BYU-Idaho Radio celebrates 40 years on the airwaves this month. On May 1, 1984, Ricks College launched a new full-power radio station called KRIC. With 75,000 watts of power, the new station broadcast classical music and news programming on 100.5 FM to eastern Idaho, western Wyoming and southern Montana. Forty years later, KBYI 94.3 FM continues that legacy and invites the public to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

BYU-Idaho introduces a new course, BYUI 101: Experience BYU-Idaho, to help incoming freshman students learn about various campus resources and find a community within their peers. Don Bingham, a faculty member and the course lead for the class, highlights the numerous benefits BYUI 101 will have for first semester.

The BYU-Idaho music department is set to present a captivating French-themed concert titled "An American in Paris" featuring the Symphony Band. With faculty member David Faires expressing excitement over the vibrant music and promising an engaging experience, the concert will take place tonight at 7 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in an evening of exquisite melodies.

The Great Scott Bassoon Octet, a newly formed ensemble at BYU-Idaho, will debut in a free concert at the Eliza R. Snow Building on Tuesday. Formed by happenstance with eight enthusiastic members, the octet offers a unique sonic experience with its combination of bassoons and contra bassoons, while also engaging in a creative grassroots marketing campaign to promote their performance.
