New Parking Permit System

To enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and accountability of our parking program, BYU-Idaho is transitioning to an electronic parking permit system. This change streamlines parking operations, improves the user experience, and modernizes enforcement through License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology.

Why the Change?

  • Modernization of campus parking management
  • Greater efficiency and reduced reliance on physical materials
  • More accurate and accountable enforcement through LPR
  • Enhanced user flexibility to manage multiple vehicles
  • Long-term cost savings and environmental benefits

Implementation Timeline

  • April 29, 2025: Employees must register their vehicles and request an electronic parking permit
  • June 4, 2025: Students may begin requesting fall permits
  • September 15, 2025: Full implementation of the system for all parking enforcement

Key Changes

  • All permits are electronic and tied to license plates
  • Physical hang tags and decals are no longer issued or accepted
  • Up to five vehicles may be registered per user account
  • Visitor permits must be requested by the visitor, either online or in person at Kimball 150H
  • Contractors must register and be approved through Architecture and Construction Management Services
  • Students may not request visitor permits
  • Signage will be updated across campus prior to Fall 2025
  • Temporary handicap permits require state-level documentation and must be submitted in person
