Students in Health, Recreation & Human Performance.

Movement and Rehabilitation Introduction

The Movement and Rehabilitation emphasis within the Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences major focuses on the scientific study of how the body functions during physical activity, exercise, and human movement, with particular application to clinical and therapeutic settings.

Students receive instruction in muscular and skeletal anatomy, fuel utilization, the cellular basis of muscle contraction, neuromuscular physiology, and the neuromechanics of human movement. Additional emphasis is placed on the physiology of injury, the effects of disease and disability, and evidence-based rehabilitative methods designed to restore normal movement patterns and function.

Through this focus, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate movement dysfunction, support recovery, and improve quality of life in clinical populations. This emphasis provides strong preparation for graduate and professional programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and other healthcare professions.
