Timeline of Graduation Events

Wednesday, April 10

Grad Fest

9 am – 6 pm
BYU-Idaho University Store | Manwaring Center 

Thursday, April 11

8 am – 5 pm
Pick up your name card and cap and gown in the BYU-Idaho University Store if you were unable to attend Grad Fest.

Graduation Meal Options Available on Campus

Various food options are available on campus for graduates and their families. Tickets for a buffet lunch or a box lunch are available for pre-order through the Ticket Officestarting on March 18 through 12:00 noon on April 8. The options are explained on the Ticketing website where they will be located.

  • A buffet luncheon will be offered in the south Crossroads overflow area of the Manwaring Center from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The menu will include Asiago chicken, spinach salad, rolls, steamed vegetables, and roasted red potatoes. Pre-purchased tickets through the Ticket Office will be $12.99 for adults and $6.99 for children 10 and under.
  • Box lunch options include turkey, ham, or roast beef sandwiches. These can be pre-purchased through the Ticket Office or purchased, a limited amount available, on graduation day in the lobby in front of the BYU-Idaho Center Ticket Office from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  There will be tables and chairs in the BYU-Idaho Center courts 9 and 10 for patrons to eat their lunches after Commencement.
  • Additionally, Chick-fil-A and Stacks & Wraps will be open in the Crossroads from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on the day of graduation.

No food or drink is allowed inside the event venues.

Commencement begins at 12:45 pm. Graduates should line up in the I-Center by 12:30 pm for the processional, which will begin at 12:45 pm.
Attendees should be in their seats by 12:30 pm.

Grad Fest – Wednesday, April 10, 2024
Grad Fest will be held on April 10, from 9 am–6 pm in the University Store in the Manwaring Center.

At the Grad Fest celebration, graduates will:
  • Pick up their cap, gown, and tassel
  • Pick up their name card for convocation 
  • Confirm their diploma mailing address
  • Update your contact information with Alumni to stay connected to BYUI
  • Purchase BYU-Idaho memorabilia items for 20% off
  • Enter raffles to win Class of 2024 swag and other prizes
  • Take photos at a graduation-themed photo backdrop
  • Enjoy refreshments and other celebration festivities

Graduates can save $10 by pre-ordering their cap, gown, and tassel online from Herff-Jones between January 8 and February 29.

Cap, gown, and tassel bundles or tassel-only purchases can also be made at the University Store or online at https://www.byuistore.com/graduation up until graduation day (while supplies last).

If you’re unable to attend Grad Fest, you can still visit the store to take photos and pick up your name cards on the day of graduation.

Commencement – Thursday, April 11, 2024
Commencement is a gathering of all graduates where attendees receive counsel and recognition from the University President, Alvin F. Meredith III, Sister Tracy Y. Browning, Second Counselor in the General Primary Presidency, and other special guests. Commencement begins at 12:45 PM. Graduates should line up in the I-Center by 12:30 PM for the processional, which will begin at 12:45. Attendees should be in their seats by 12:30.
Commencement will also be available to view online.

Tickets are required for guests. Tickets will be available starting Monday, March 18, at 9:00 AM and can be obtained at byui.edu/tickets, the ticket desk inside the University Store, or over the phone at 208-496-3170. Graduates can get up to 12 tickets online, and if more are needed, they are free to call (208-496-3170), email (ticketoffice@byui.edu), or visit our cashier in the University Store.

Convocation – Thursday, April 11, 2024
Convocation is for both Associate and Bachelor's degree students. This is the event where students will walk across the stage, have their names read, and be handed their *diploma cover. These convocation ceremonies are held by each college and are a separate event from the commencement ceremony. Graduates should plan to be in their seats at least fifteen minutes before convocation begins. Tickets are not required.

Online Convocation
A virtual Online Convocation is held for online students unable to attend in person. It will be available on the Online Graduation page.

For specific questions regarding convocation ceremonies, contact your college department for details.

*Diplomas will be mailed to students once final degree requirements have been reviewed and confirmed to have been met.

Dress

BYU-Idaho’s Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations states that “each student, employee, and volunteer commit to represent the Savior Jesus Christ, the Church, and the Church Educational System…. promote modesty, cleanliness, neatness, and restraint in dress and grooming…. maintain an elevated standard distinctive to educational institutions of the Church of Jesus Christ.” 

Consistent with these principles and expectations, and to help us invite the Spirit, guests are encouraged to wear their Sunday best to all graduation events. 

 While on campus, we invite you to wear,

  • Clothing that would cover the temple garment line.
  • Clothing that is modest.
  • Clothing that is neat and clean.

Sloppy, overly casual, ragged, or extreme clothing is not acceptable.

Help us to “maintain an elevated standard distinctive” to BYU-Idaho.

Accessible Aids Available

  • Wheelchairs:  There is wheelchair-accessible seating in each venue, if needed, you can rent wheelchairs for $50 refundable deposit from both the I-Center and Hart Ticket Offices.
  • Listening Devices:  Listening devices are available through the Ticket Office. Please bring a photo ID to check out Listening devices.
  • Translation Services:  Spanish and Portuguese translations are available for those attending Commencement through the Listening devices.  Please refer to the "Listening Devices" for availability and check-outs.
  • Service Animals:  BYU-Idaho reasonably accommodates persons with disabilities who require the assistance of service animals. A service animal that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability is allowed. Pets and comfort (therapy) animals are not permitted on University property.

Not Allowed into the Graduation Ceremonies

  • Flowers in vases with water
  • Helium balloons
  • Strollers, skateboards, or other large items
  • Weapons of any kind

Any noise-making devices, including cell phones, are to be turned off or silenced during the ceremonies.

Parking

Parking permits are not enforced during graduation. The university entrance on West Viking Dr. will be blocked off. You can access the campus at any other entrance.

Elderly and handicapped parking will be provided at specific lots designated by signs. If you can walk longer distances, we ask you to be courteous of others and park further away from the I-Center so that those who are unable to walk as far can find convenient parking.
