Applying for Degrees and Certificates
The application is a way for students to request a review of the courses they have taken and to verify that by the end of the term, they will likely meet all requirements for the credential (diploma or certificate) listed on the application.
You must be registered for your final courses for us to confirm that you will meet all requirements by the end of the term. For that reason, you will not be able to apply to your declared major until you are registered for all remaining classes, including internships or student teaching. You can apply for associate degrees or certificates once all requirements have been met. Please email graduation@byui.edu if you need an exception.
Yes, each credential—certificate, associate degree, and bachelor’s degree—requires a separate application.
When you apply for your declared major, the system will automatically create separate applications for any declared certificates you haven’t yet received. If you’d like to receive a certificate earlier, you can click the “Request to Receive Early” button.
If you plan to earn an associate degree on the way to your bachelor’s, the associate degree application will become available once you’ve completed 60 credits.

You can access your graduation application in two ways:
- Click the link at the top of this page to go directly to your application.
- Or, find it on your IPlan landing page, where your graduation planner is located.
Some certificates are automatically awarded each semester after final grades are posted. If your certificate was not automatically awarded, you can:
- Check your graduation application to see if a certificate application is available.
- Contact Academic Advising to verify that you’ve met all requirements and request that they create a graduation application for you to complete.
- Email graduation@byui.edu to request that a certificate application be created.
You will receive an email from The Michael Sutter Company (DiploMatic) congratulating you on completing the requirements for your certificate.
This email will also ask you to provide a current mailing address so they can send you a printed copy.

We continue accepting applications until the day before final grades are posted. Exact deadlines for each semester are listed at the top of this page.

Yes. However, no graduation events are held for the Summer Session. Graduating students can choose to participate in graduation events the semester before or after the Summer Session. All summer graduate names will automatically appear in the Fall commencement program.
“Non-matriculating” is a non-degree seeking admission status. Although a non-matriculating student cannot apply for degrees, they can apply for certificates. If you are a non-matriculating student and do not have access to the graduation application, please email graduation@byui.edu for assistance. You will need to know the exact name and the catalog year of the certificate you are applying for.

Once the hold is resolved, the degree will be posted automatically within one week. If your degree has not been awarded due to one of these issues and you need assistance, please email graduation@byui.edu.

We are unable to verify or track courses you are taking at other institutions. To determine whether those courses meet our degree or certificate requirements, you must first transfer the coursework to BYU-Idaho.
Important: If you are taking required courses during your final semester at another school, your graduation may be delayed. We cannot finalize your degree audit until the transfer credit is received and processed by the Transfer Evaluation office.
If your final degree audit shows incomplete requirements due to pending transfer credit, please email graduation@byui.edu once the credit has been awarded and request a re-review of your graduation application. If you missed the graduation application deadline, contact graduation@byui.edu for assistance.
