The Department of History encourages students to:
- Have a solid understanding of, and interest in, U.S. and world history, and a sense of the complexities of human experience
- Read and write well
- Communicate publicly and participate in small teams
- Have some knowledge of doing research in a university library
- Discuss history on a general political, social, and moral level.
In addition, History Education majors should develop a sizeable repertoire of lessons, pedagogies, and approaches to history, which are appropriate for teaching at the secondary level.
