Dietitian

The university dietitian provides expert guidance on nutrition and wellness to support the health and success of the campus community. Through individual consultations, educational programming, and collaboration with campus partners, the dietitian helps students make informed choices about food and lifestyle.
This role focuses on promoting balanced eating habits, fostering a positive relationship with food, and creating an inclusive environment that respects diverse dietary needs and preferences. Dietitian appointments are available to all students on campus who are taking 6 credits or more and can be made through Brigham Young University Idaho Counseling Center.

What to Expect

Your initial consult will last up to 45 minutes. After making an appointment with the dietitian, you can expect your initial consult to follow this general outline:

  1. Review your nutrition history, diet history, current eating patterns, and your reason for meeting with a dietitian.
  2. The dietitian will provide education as needed based on the information you share. This may include organizing meal plans if needed.
  3. Set goals that are relevant to your needs.
  4. Schedule a follow-up appointment, if desired.

About the Dietitian

Alisa Garner, RDN, LD, CDCES Alisa Garner is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who is passionate about promoting health and wellness. She loves helping students build positive relationships with food and empowering them to make choices that support their well-being.
Alisa began her education at Ricks College (now BYU–Idaho) and completed her dietetics degree at Idaho State University. She brings a wealth of experience from working in hospitals, WIC programs, and teaching on campus. Since 2018, she has served at BYU–Idaho’s Wellness Center, where she finds great joy in working with the amazing students.
Originally from Idaho, Alisa is a proud mother of four children and three bonus children. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling, and spending quality time with her family. Her balanced approach to life and work makes her a compassionate and knowledgeable resource for students seeking to improve their health.
