Changing to Church Account upgrades BYU-Idaho’s IT infrastructure to a state-of-the art security system. It better protects the university and you from malicious hackers and data leaks.
All higher education schools in the Church are working to switch over to Church Account. This will allow students who transfer from one school to another to use the same Church Account at any CES school.

The only change is how students and employees will sign-in online. You will use your Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Account, known as your Church Account, to log onto online systems, like Canvas, myBYUI, Workday, and others.

Your BYU-Idaho account will remain the same. Access to campus-based items like computers, Wi-Fi, etc. will still require users to sign in with their BYUI credentials.
To use your Church Account starting February 12, 2025, you’ll need to connect your Church Account to your current BYU-Idaho login account. It’s easy and only takes a few minutes to complete. You'll only to complete it one time. It’s recommended you connect your accounts now, ahead of time, so you can continue access when the official switch occurs on February 12th.

Anyone that attempts to access BYUI services or systems, including all students, employees, alumni, retirees, and guests, are required to utilize Church Account.

2-factor authentication is another layer of security used at BYU-Idaho to protect your accounts. BYU-Idaho uses Duo Mobile for 2-factor authentication. You will be required to connect your current 2-factor method (call, text or duo app) to your Church Account in order to continue access.
This extra 2-factor will only be required when accessing BYU-Idaho sites. It will not be required when signing in to Church sites (i.e. donations website, gospel library, etc.).

The connection process only lets the login system know that your two accounts go together. It will not link your passwords or transfer information like tithing records, endorsement status, or any other personal data from the Church to BYU-Idaho.
No. Everyone that needs to access the BYU-Idaho web-based system must use Church Account starting February 12, 2025. There will not be a way to use your BYU-Idaho account for access after that date.
