Biography

William (Bill) J. Riggins Jr., was born in San Diego, California, as the 12th of 18 children. He lived in Tijuana, Mexico, for the first nine years of his life, at which point he moved to San Diego. At age 14 he joined the Church, and at age 19 he served a mission to Santiago, Chile.

Brother Riggins was sealed to Bonnie Lynn McKee in the Los Angeles temple. They are the parents of four children and the grandparents to 14 grandchildren, and one great grandson!

Brother Riggins worked in the swimming pool industry for 20 years. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from San Diego State and a doctoral degree from Alliant International University. After graduating, he was hired by the Church Education System where he served as director of the San Diego Institute for 11 years. He was hired by BYU-Idaho in June of 2006 and serves as a teacher in the Religion Department, Director of Student Honor, and Chief Inclusion Officer.

He has served in every position in the Young Men’s program, stake Young Men’s president, high councilor, counselor in two bishoprics, bishop, and Stake President. From 2014 to 2017, Brother and Sister Riggins served as mission leaders of the Ecuador Guayaquil North Mission. Brother Riggins currently serves as Stake Patriarch and temple ordinance worker. If you ask him what he considers to be his greatest success he will tell you that it is a combination of four events: joining the Church, serving a mission, marrying his sweet wife in the temple, and pursuing an education.

Brother Bill Riggins' remarks will be broadcast live on BYU-Idaho Weekly Devotionals and BYUI Radio.
