Park Run is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to helping people feel welcome in the community by having a Free 5k run in a park every Saturday... and this month, in Rexburg, the weekly run will return to its summer start time at 8 a.m.
Weston Flamm volunteers with the organization.
"It's just a 5k run and it's a two course lap. So it's an out and back and do it two times. Every once in a while afterward we might celebrate or do something for somebody that reaches a milestone such as 25 park runs or 50 park runs," he said.
According to Flamm, while these runs are "races” there are no prizes for how you finish, so runners of all levels are welcome. Flamm also said that if you obtain a barcode from park run, you can log your time and practice on getting better. Through April, Rexburg has had 139 events with 604 finishers and 2,719 finishes. There also were 91 volunteers since the run started in Rexburg.
"We need about four to five people to run the park run each week. There's the director, then we have a tail walker. So no one's ever going to be last because we have a designated tail walker that walks the course and will be the final finisher for the day. And then we need help either setting up or taking stuff down," Flamm also said.
These events happen at Riverside Park near Rexburg Rapids every Saturday at 50 W 2nd N. If you want more information about the event or to help volunteer, please visit parkrun.us/riversidepark/.
