This weekend, Snake River Strings is opening up a school in Rexburg that allows students to learn classics and other types of music as part of their lessons.

“That's what we try to challenge with our music lessons is it doesn't have to be one specific way,” said Shelby Murdock, the founder of Snake River Strings. “We want to go with what students are passionate about.”

Murdock says they can study anything from the classics to the Beatles, just as long as the student enjoys it.

Instead of selling music books as the main product, they sell lessons in musical instruments. They teach strings like fiddle, cello and viola but also instruments like drums, piano, flute and more. They also teach voice lessons.

In Rexburg especially, there is an audio engineering teacher so students can make their own music and market it. The school also holds recitals where these students get to show off their talents.

“Recitals are so important for students to give them like goals and a deadline, something to work towards that keeps them focused on their goal and reaching their goal,” Murdock said.

The opening is happening this Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 859 South Yellowstone Highway behind Anytime Fitness.
