The Madison Library District has received a grant from the Madison Library Foundation and Sparklight for a new set of computers for the children’s section of the library.

The grant was made in collaboration with the Madison Library Foundation and Sparklight, an internet provider, for $7,500 for new systems.

The computers currently at the library have been used for about a decade and these will be replaced with upgraded models.

“So, these are like very specific computers that are kind of closed circuits, they're safe,” said Alex Bressler, president of the Madison Library Foundation. “They have children’s programs and games and stuff already pre-downloaded. So, the kids can go on there, they're like touch screens, they can use them, they can play with them, do all kinds of stuff and it's safe.”

This will help breathe new life into the children’s section of the library, where, according to Bressler, they often have a wait time of having at least two or three kids before the next one was available because there were two computers.

“No, they're not cheap and the other issue you deal with is all the children programming on the computers as well. So, like, I mean, it's a fully functioning computer that needs to be able to be beat up day after day by kids for years on end,” Bressler said.
