The city of Pocatello is asking for citizens to share suggestions for the future of the city’s parks, recreation, open spaces and trails or PROST projects. The city needs more engagement with people to ensure these facilities and more are not only adapted but expanded or renewed.

“Recently we adopted our overall plan called the Comprehensive Plan. And what we found out from the community is that one of the biggest assets that the community, I guess, cherishes or wants to see improved is our recreation opportunities,” said Jim Anglesey, the long-range planner for the city.

Anglesey says Ross Park is one of the places the plan covers. It has a water park, a zoo and other recreational facilities for the community. The recreation opportunities may get revamped in this project. Still, the city is still looking for people to recommend changes. But there are limits with suggestions.

“One of the biggest, I guess, high price items that people really want is an indoor aquatic center. But that's a multimillion-dollar facility to build and to maintain and operate. And so, while we want to pursue that over time, it's very unlikely that within 10 years that will happen unless we find major chunk of change or something like that,” Anglesey said.

The plan will be brought before the city council in mid-April, but comments are still being taken.
