The College of Eastern Idaho continues its growth with a new building called the FutureTech Building. It also recently received approval for a police training program.

“It's just another way for us to provide opportunities for students in Eastern Idaho, for them to see the programs that we offer, to have different career paths, to really be able to explore, you know, what is out there as far as jobs and careers and things like that,” said Trevor Elordi, the Vice President of Workforce Training and Operations of the college.

Eloridi says the new building is called the FutureTech Building because of the tech and it will hold surgical technician and automation learning programs. It will also have maker spaces with 3D printers. The new facility will be about 89,000 square feet.

The Peace Officer Standards and Training Program or P.O.S.T., trains law enforcement officers and was recently certified. Elordi, who is also a former police officer, said there are two programs, one for detention for officers who work at the Bonneville and Madison County jails, and patrol for Rexburg and Idaho Falls police. The programs are in April and July respectively.

“Because the things that we can offer, they're affordable. There is a lot of different opportunities that somebody may not even know exist out there. So really explore those opportunities. And we're happy to be able to provide this building and to provide a new program that can really help grow. Because we know eastern Idaho is continuing to grow. And to really support that growth is really important to us,” Elordi said.
